Kids First by David Krip

According to Krip (2011), "...the school day is getting smaller, class sizes are getting bigger, and summer programs, health clinics, and after-school activities-the "frills" that can actually spell success or failure-are being eliminated. (Krip, 7)

MRTES has lost summer programs, after-school activities, and even the annual dental trailer visit, if I recall correctly.  We've attemped to compensate the loss of after-school programs by having extension periods during the school day, which makes the school day smaller as Krip mentioned.

There is a battle between dollars, scores, and students.  Right now none of them are winning.
